ESE PhD Alumni ‘24 Alumni Mathieu Ouellet joins Cornell University as Postdoctoral Fellow

Mathieu Ouellet, advised by Professor Lee Bassett, has joined Cornell Engineering’s School of Applied and Engineering Physics as a Postdoctoral Fellow, exploring the frontier between quantum sensing and computation. His work blends theory and experiment, turning abstract models of information into devices that measure the world at its most fundamental level.

Mathieu’s research focuses on quantum systems that both compute and sense. “In most quantum sensors, the act of measurement erases part of the information we seek,” Ouellet says. “By shifting portions of the classical computation into the quantum domain, we can retain more information before it’s lost. The aim is to build devices where sensing and computation occur within the same physical process.”
