EE Junior Nick Harty, and Princeton Junior, Aum Dhruv, majoring in Operations Research and Financial Engineering, have shifted their focus with Medibound.
“It’s no longer targeting medical device manufactures,” Harty said. Marketing Medibound as a medical device didn’t prove viable due to the payment structure in the healthcare industry. “Instead, it’s a patient-facing app that we will serve to healthcare providers,” Harty said, adding, “the new focus is on using technology to improve patient lives.”
So how does it work? Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) remains at the core. According to Harty, the app takes on remote patient monitoring. “Existing RPM solutions are often clunky and focused on maximizing insurance payments rather than patient care.”
Their goal for the app? To fill in gaps with care in between appointments. Again, this will help prevent trips to the ER, Harty emphasized. As such, Medibound’s AI agent reaches out to the patient with text messages on health. For example, if the patient experiences back pain, the agent will follow-up. “It’s goal-oriented,” Harty said. “And HIPPA compliant.” Harty’s comment refers to the fact that the AI Agent will be synched to the patient’s Electronic Health Record (EHR).
The above represents the first stage for their Medibound pivot. Future plans include having the ability to track data through wearable devices such as Fitbits. According to Harty, this will help create “insightful follow-ups.”
Currently, their target market extends to cardiology and heart failure centers. “Many of those centers are still using pen-and-paper methods,” Harty said, noting the app would represent, “a significant improvement.”
And Harty, always working on the next thing, created the Storiaria Platform with fellow Penn students Spencer Kaufman, and Charles Hirschhorn. As an AI-powered end-to-end film production platform, filmmakers can use it to streamline the pre-production process such as casting, scene development, and shot lists. Storiaria will help reduce tasks that take weeks. It will not replace the core, creative act, Harty stressed. According to Harty, AI “lacks the crucial element of human experience and the personal touch of rewriting and refining.” For more information on the current Medibound platform: https://medibound.com Or hear from Harty and Dhruv’s on their pivot here
